Art Ciné, at Malba

A great option that I have stumbled across recently is the extensive program of film screenings at the city’s big contemporary art museum Malba.

Set on one of the grand Buenos Aires avenues, at the top of a marble staircase, the cinema is found inside the lofty museum space, a setting perfect for holding hands in the dark on forgetful Sunday evenings.

Smoking a cigarette outside on sunny afternoons, or in the mild autumn evenings, leaves you feeling very cosmopolitan, hanging around in a foreign capital, passing your time watching the iconic cinema of Europe and Latin America – in unison with the rest of the city’s bored film/indie kids.

The program is broad and you can catch many different classics in the cinematic span between directors like Wim Wenders, Luc Besson, Tim Burton, David Lynch and more. If your filmic passion is of a more international character, Diego Curubeto, Santiago Loza and Ezequiel Acuña are on the program as well. A word of caution though – the argentine films have no subtitles.

An other reason why the “Generación VHS”, the title the screenings go under, is immensely popular in my world, is that the entrance fee is 8 argentinean pesos (with some kind of student ID), which corresponds to about 12 kr. Thus making it possible to brush up on your classics, and fill in the blanks in your knowledge of the silver screen, with out going completly bankrupt.

The program can be found on this page enjoy!
