Happy 30th, 4AD!
Do you ever really think about, which record label your favourite band is signed to? Does it matter? And do you ever walk into a record [...]

Saturday 23.30 I had an interview arranged with a guy, who was hard to overlook, because he had a pink mustache. He turned out to be the Icelandic dj Maggi Lego, former music producer, and also a very relaxed guy in workout clothing. We agreed to meet at a bar called Bakkus, which is probably one of the best places to go out in Reykjavik.

(Bakkus – maybe the most hip bar in Reykjavik?)
I first went to Nasa to watch and listen to some bands at a concert there, but the atmosphere and the music wasn’t really what I put my feet on this island for. So went home, which is a 4 minute fast walk from where “it happens”, to get my camera – and headed for Bakkus to meet Magnus = Maggi Lego.
I already had a nice start with the alcohol, and the crowd in mix the loud music made it hard to actually talk and hear anything inside the bar. So we made a deal like, when Magnus was taking a smoking break, I would follow him and ask him questions. So we did:

(Maggi Lego & Artist Davis Orn Halldorsson, outside Bakkus telling jokes and secrets)
Theo: So – you told me, that you were born in Copenhagen?
Maggi Lego: Yeah! I was born at Rigshospitalet, but I’ve lived here on Iceland since I was 2 and a half years…
Theo: …. and how old are you now, old enough to have kids?
Maggi Lego: I’ll be turing 41 soon, and have one kid from a former relationship, and I just got out of another last week!
Theo: Oh I’m sorry, but you seem very all right, not so sturbed more chilled and satisfied?
Maggi Lego: Sure I know what I’m doing, and I’m a self confident person, that’s how I am.
Theo: So you get what you want?
Maggi Lego: In a way – yes!
Theo: But you’re a dj, or how do you define youself?
Maggi Lego: Well I went on a serious rehab from drinking 3 years ago, and I just made sure to keep myself booked, so my dj’ing shouldn’t stop because I’m not drinking. It’s my hobby, and it’s my job – I only play the music I like!
Theo: I understand, and I heard the music you’re playing – and I really like it, what genres are you into?
Maggi Lego: I think you can call it a kind of housy, detroit maybe?! I like all kinds of music, but I enjoyed the most to play in the east of Europe. Copenhagen was wack!
Theo: You did a tour?
Maggi Lego: Sure! Like five years ago I would tour around from Spain, Germany, France, Greece, Romania and so on – but Switzerland was my favorite country!
Theo: So what are you living from, when you’re not on tour?
Maggi Lego: Actually I’m doing a tour in August/September in Northern America, but my rent is really low, so it’s not so hard. Some years ago i did music with the icelandic group called Gus Gus, and my bank account still hasn’t forgot until this date.
Theo: That’s cool – did you have any hits I might know?
Maggi Lego: I think that the album sold around 600.000 copies around the world, so … you’ve might know some of them.
Maggi Lego: The tune is almost finished inside, so I have to change it, find me next time I’m having a break.
And then Magnus went inside again to play some more of his super tasty music!
