FAROESE DANCER IN NYC

From the Faros, to Denmark, to Sweden, to So You Think You Can Dance winner – Denmark, to dropping it all to follow a dream in NYC. With ‘45 cents and a can of beans’ she left all she knew to pursue what ever awaited her out there. Vigdis Hentze Olsen is a 24-year-old dancer who has really grabbed life by the balls.
I’m left feeling nothing but impressed about how ambitious this girl is. In my mind it take a lot of stones to say ‘no’ to the easy-road and follow that deeper calling. In 2006 after winning to So You Think You Can Dance, she was bombarded with commercial dance gigs. “So being a public figure from SYTYCD, having a label on myself and travelling only in the commercial field I felt unsatisfied” says Vigdis. So off to New York she went “eager to study unknown dance forms and theatre”

With a little bit of fate and along the road she met Albert Bendix (Actor) and the ball started to roll. Over a bottle of wine and a brainstorm later the SATCNYC.ORG (check it out) was born! Basically the theatre company was set up to shine a little bit of light on the art coming out of Scandinavian, and creating opportunities for Scandinavian artists, dancers, actors, choreographs and directors. With the vision of bridging the gap between New York and Scandinavia, (Mmm yes please) If in NYC drop into the Scandinavia House on Park Avenue and support some expatriate talent.
