ArtRebels Review 2010

2011 is just begun, and we can’t wait to enter a new year with even more projects in the creative melting pot. But let’s start out with a quick recap of 2010; a year in which ArtRebels moved offices a couple of times, and at the same time grew more than ever. So much stuff went down, we had a lot of fun, did a lot of business, and the assumption that these two terms don’t mix is a lie. Business is pleasure! We picked out 10 endeavours from the previous year to give you all a swift impression of what happened in the ArtRebels universe.
2010, here’s to you!

In february, we launched our new web platform (you’re on it right now, hope it feels good!). To celebrate it, we decided to throw a party in Copenhagen with our dear friends from Villains Club. The joint venture turned out to be a success, check the video below.

Another way to create a small fuss about the new website was to design the simultaneously released ArtRebels Times as the webplatform. The magazine gave a proper introduction to ArtRebels and was printed in 5000 copies, distributed by hand and post. The mail outs turned out to be huge expense, because of the 12×12″ format. -We thought it would be a super neat idea that the magazine resembled a LP record, the postal service didn’t.

April 29th is the international Day of the Dance. The purpose is to gather all forms of dance and to celebrate this unique artform and its ability to cross political, cultural and ethnic borders – uniting people through the universal language that is: DANCE. ArtRebels promoted the whole shebang and did the opening party for the Copenhagen edition. We created a universe where papercut creatures danced in the ceiling, the walls disappeared into a groove of video and light and sounds from Copenhagen’s best DJs made the crowd bounce along. All together complementing the ubiquitous dancing from which it all evolved!

Trailerpark Festival is our main annual project. The joyful event took place in late June, and the music line up was improved several notches since last year. We had Caribou, Jessie Evans, Prinzhorn Dance School, Toro Y Moi, Thee Attacks and The Kissaway Trail to mention but a few. More than 40 acts played the festival throughout its 3 days – all very excited about performing in the alternative surroundings the festival gronds offered. Djuna Barnes did this mixtape with 24 Trailerpark artists – selected and mixed in 24 hours.

In late summer 2010, the second hummel by ArtRebels collection was introduced. If you want to have a closer look or purchase an item or two, please follow this link.

This nice little film was produced to promote the line:

Another fashion related feature was our Moveable Garden during Copenhagen Fashion Week in August. A team of ArtRebels toured the city with picket fences, a photo booth and reading matter. The fashionistas never miss an oppurtinity to get their picture taken, hence the great success of this concept. Have a look right here for some photos, or check the video for a stop motion summary.

The inner city shopping center Bruuns’s Galleri in Århus wanted som rebeleious spirit represented in. This was an amazing field trip for the ArtRebels crew, who for two weeks changed the entire shopping experience in Denmark’s best visited mall.

We Unite launched in October 2010 as a concept to encourage female entrepeneurship. Visit the blog right here to read the stories and philosophies of women who all have interesting approaches to doing business.

The Trailerpark compilation contains some of the acts who played on the festival throughout the years. It’s a great way to keep the festival cravings down until the next Trailerpark Festival. To reduce the jitters, follow

In September 2010 Danish Red Cross (DRK) and ArtRebels initiated a collaboration to launch a new thrift store. DRK have encountered difficulties reaching the younger fashion crowd, although the interest for vintage clothing is bigger than ever, and DRK has access to vast amounts through some 20 million tons of used clothes being donated every year. Located on Nørrebrogade 40 in Copenhagen, FREMTIDEN has changed all that.
