London Design Week out about town

By Household

After we closed the shop yesterday we thought it was about time to get a snoop around all the great shows that are opening for London Design Week. Drink at hand it was looking to be a great night!

First we popped by open studio at Sunbury Workshops, where our friend Felix de Pass share a studio with fellow designers Olivia Decaris, Good Wives and Warriors, Nelly Ben Hayoun, Alex Hulme, Catherine Kramer, Giles Miller, Valentin Vodev and The Workers + Myers.fr. In Felix’s studio there was samples of their nice furniture, we completely forgot to take pictures but luckily we found this nice one of their studio.

Then we went passed OKAY studios exhibition on 100 Leonard Street. OKAY studio is a collective of individual designers sharing a bit more then a workspace. We have previously gone to many of OKAY studios’ exhibitions and they always wauw us with very beautiful stuff. Though this time we missed a bit of that wauw-factor we normally get. But we did love Andrew Haythornwaite and Shay Akram’s “How’s the weather” lamp, it gave a bright perspective on an umbrella.

Further down Leonard Street in number 73a a group of both young and established Norwegian designers showed great ideas for products that fit in a suitcase in the show Norwegian Prototypes 2010. They had some very colourful and kind of Norwegian fairy cakes – not sure if they are the national cake but they tasted very nice!

We haven’t figured out how exactly Hallgeir Homstvedt’s big beautiful lamp fits in our suitcase, but we do want to chuck it in there and bring it with us.

Our favourite of the whole night was Kim Thome’s humouristic and clever suitcase, which folds out to a wardrobe when you arrive at your hotel. So it’s an all in one product, both suitcase and wardrobe!

Finally we have to mention the very beautiful poster and catalogue for Norwegian Prototypes 2010 was designed by our friend Molly Kyhl.
