Volunteer at StreetMekka

By Louise Koefoed

The 16th of November, the new iniative StreetMekka opened its doors to the public in Copenhagen. StreetMekka is a new cultural house that offers innovative street and sport facilities like street basket, street dance, break dance, parkour and DJ schooling. You can find everything under one roof in two old factory buildings, near the skate-park in Copenhagen West.

It is an amazing project that is suported by both the City Of Copenhagen, GAM3, Streetmovement, Flowdance and The Danish Table Soccer Federation. It all started with a letter from the two youngsters, Samir and Khuram, who was sick and tired of the bad weather conditions we have here in Denmark, and dreamt of a place where they could play basket with their friends all year round, regardless of the weather.

StreetMekka works like a kind of sports club or a youth facility, in which you can register and come everyday, every week or every month. You can practice, borrow gear, play or just hang out with your friends. StreetMekka has a range of coaches and volunteers, who manage the place and make sure that there is a lot of activities for you to attend.

If you like working with kids and youngsters, and you have 2-3 nights off each week, you should get in contact with StreetMekka and become a volunteer. As a volunteer you will become part of a great team, who is in charge of developing, distributing and organizing various sports and cultural activities. If this sounds interesting, write an email to irem(at)streetmekka.dk

Hello to all Rebels. Thanks for the kind words. Don’t forget that we have free admission all of November. So if you’d like to move your feet after a long day of work over at Carlsberg, then feel free to drop by!
