Momondorously cool!

Did you notice the 400+ people at Trailerpark Festival wearing green tees? Those were the lovely and hardworking volunteers who were sporting spring-colour courtesy of Momondo. Our favorite local global travel site talks Copenhagen, Trailerpark and keeping it underground.

You know, Copenhagen is a great place. Over the past 10-12 years I’ve watched it grow from a sleepy backwater best known for a dead author and a less than awe-inspiring mermaid (let’s face it!) to a creative hotspot, where every night the bass booms out over its graffiti-crowned rooftops, where artists, designers, musicians, street kids, queer folk and general good folk rub shoulders in brightly-colored throngs (underscored by tasteful black, of course) and the streets literally glitter with enthusiasm as well as the remnants of last night’s party. I am literally choking up as I write this, because goddamnit Copenhagen, I am proud. Proud that you dared. Proud that you stand out. I know for a fact that the guys at Momondo feel the same way, which made this interview more of a meeting of minds than one of those dreary Q&A’s. Here goes!

Lets start with introductions – give me a line about who you are and why you chose to support Trailerpark?

OK, first things first, Momondo iis a global travel site founded by travel tech geeks with a passion for exploring great places and meeting new people. We make it easier and cheaper to travel the globe and share experiences. We run a series of crisp City Guides too – where everything is contributed by our users and colour-coded by ambiance. We like to make people feel at home wherever they go.

Why is Momondo involved in a creative event like Trailerpark?
We are involved in Trailerpark Festival because we love its innovative and urban profile. The set-up is original and differs radically from other music and art events. In that sense Momondo and Trailerpark complement each other as we both have an urban profile and we believe in doing things in a different way. At Momondo we think it’s fun to work with and support people and events that have a vibrant and positive approach to things.

How do you see events like Trailerpark from a more general perspective? What do they contribute to cities like Copenhagen?
The last couple of year’s new events and festivals have sprung up like mushrooms around Copenhagen. Events such as Trailerpark Festival, Distortion, Bas under Buen, Raw, Strøm etc. all have a very distinctive musical profile as well a unique urban setting and they’ve become synonymous with ‘Summer in Copenhagen’ and something you take into consideration when planning your holiday. Even though these events are hugely popular and are attended by the thousands they’ve still managed to maintain their status as being ‘underground’ or at least not mainstream. They bring vibrations to Copenhagen and they underline how diversified and creative a city actually can be.

Have you been at Trailerpark yourself? What have you seen?
Of course we attended Trailerpark and fell in love with Alexander Robotnick and Erobique whom both proved that you can be old, overweight and the worst singer on the planet and still be ridiculously cool and pull off a brilliant set. We also developed a soft spot for many of the wild and crazy art installations.
