The project Before I die I want to… confronts people with their own mortality and asks them what they want to have accomplished before their time on this planet is up. A Polaroid is taken of the participants and they are invited to write their goals for life beneath their photo. The results provide fascinating insights of a long list of people from all over the world.

One of the most interesting observations is the marked difference between the desires of participants in developed and developing countries. However, it seems that generally we all have the same fears of death – about not making a big enough contribution to the big old planet. A perhaps surprising amount of people are itching to get hitched and have kids. And many are keen to help others out and do good.

One part cultural study, another part an encouragement to reflect on priorities and take action on desires. The Before I die I want to… project aims to create a new dialogue in the realm of sociological art.

In a number of years the participants will be contacted via email to see if they have accomplished their goal. We look forward to seeing who manages it!
