ArtRebel’s new favourite blog has to be ‘Dads are the Original Hipsters.’ We’ve been highly amused by blogger Brad Getty’s photos and commentary on the ultimate hipster dads from yesteryear. We decided to get Brad to tell us more about the blog and how the hell he came up with the idea.
“It was November two years ago and I was traveling home to visit my family. I had been participating in Movember so I had a pretty terrible little dirt mustache at the time. When I got off the plane my dad greeted me. He also had grown in a mustache – a glorious one. He leaned over, gave me a hug and said, “I just want you to know that what ever you do, I’ve already done it and I can still do it way better.” In that instant I looked at my dad and realized that he was not only a hipster, but the original one. It seems like everyday we’re sharing stories and he continues to amaze me with how much more awesome he is than I will ever be.”
“I don’t have a specific type of original hipster that I feature on the blog. The main thing I look for is an amazing photo that I can really tell a story with. I get hundreds of wedding photos, but I ignore all of them because they are not unique. Something about the photo must catch a person off guard.”
“I would describe an original hipster as a dad who lived YOLO (You Only Live Once) back when it was carpe diem. He was a man who pissed into the wind of life, and drank as much of it in on the rocks as he could. He was an adventurer, who always had a great story to tell. He had style, swagger and all around bad-assery.”
