Fighting my way through a plate of bacon and eggs that perfectly suits the Monday post-hangovers, I can hardly imagine a better soundtrack than this one by Rita Blue. It’s a bit bleak and moody, but also quite fun for a guy who never listens to anything but folk songs recorded in minor on Mondays.
A little background on Rita; she’s firmly associated with Copenhagen dj-culture, entering the scene as the former half of dj duo Ladybox. They have played all over Denmark since 2003, and went adventuring in far ends of the world, playing in Shanghai, Brazil, Iceland, Istanbul, Cairo, Lebanon, and New York among other places. Now she works with the very talented Dix One in the dj duo Point Systemet. Besides that she’s a member of the dj crew Black Poodle Quarterbacks.
I asked Rita about the background of the sounds she chose to share with us today: “This Monday mixtape is a reflection of the blue Monday mood I often find myself in. You know, when you have the feeling, after a long late weekend, that you wanna step lightly into the new week. Monday blue is such a sweet, tender spot to be in, and if sound is like a blanket, you wanna wrap yourself in a real soothing one. Not escaping the blue, embracing it. Enjoy!”
I’m in the sound blanket, it’s warm. And smells good too. Thanks, Rita!
