The big interview // Street Artist Chifumi

chifumi6

Team ArtRebels are big fans of street art. At this year’s Trailerpark Festival, we showcased hot new talent and had the pleasure of hosting French street artist Chifumi, who decorated the front of one of the buildings within the Trailerpark Festival area.

Based in Strasbourg, France, Chifumi is about to start a year long adventure with artist Tony Weingartner where everything and anything will be their canvas. Sounds like our kind of trip. We asked this talented kid a few questions about his Trailerpark experience and what is next on the cards.

Trailerpark festival 2012- how was it for you?
TP 2012 was one my best artistic experiences ever! Through the real kindess of the Danish people, it was really exciting to be surrounded by so many creative minds. I enjoyed the fact that artists create with limited resources and realize huge pieces. It was also a lot of fun with the staff and the incredible music performances.
I want to give a special thanks to Royal Beer for the the range of beer arranged in the festival.

What was the inspiration behind your awesome wall piece?
I create for and through urban landscapes, using the graffiti culture background as a ghetto cliché. I draw in the violent aesthetic of the street and the difficulty of the culture to create something new. Also, architecture is really important. The reality of buildings inspire the shapes, colours and size of my installations. Everything I do is dictated by the context: social context, politic, architectural and cultural…

Will you come back for Trailerpark 2013?
Who knows! But making a Chifumi trailer seems like good artistic motivation.

What is next for Chifumi?
Right now, I’m very excited to start my new project with the French artist Tony Weingartner called Radical Drift. For one year we will travel across Asia and perform, interact, paint and sculpt in many different contexts. Using the world as our media and our life as our medium.
Every month the channel Arte Creative will show our adventures on video. People will be able to participate in our project by voting for directions we have to follow on our channel.

If you could transform any building anywhere in the world, what would it be?
Every building in Copenhagen looks perfect for that.

Any secret powers that you want the ArtRebels community to know about?
Like Jesus who can walk on water, I have the secret power to run over cars. But I am still perfecting this technique, so it will stay a secret power.

Keep up to date with Chifumi’s Radical Drift adventure here.
