On a cold and stormy morning I made a wrong turn. I ended up in a completly sinister and boring part of town, home to Bella Center. Not sexy! Luckily I made my way to TAP1 and CPH Kids Fashion Fair where I was warmly welcomed by Icelandic designer and husband, who are the faces behind new Children’s Clothing brand Sunbird.

Nice looking people!

We sat down for a cup of tea to chat about freedom, fringes, fun and Sunbird.

What’s in a name?

A story. At least if you ask Sunna about the reason behind Sunbird. See, her name means Sun, and her daughter is named Loa after a migrant bird that pops up right around spring in Iceland. The two names combined inspired the name Sunbird.

What’s it about?

Fringes, fun, and freedom to move. Sunbird makes comfort look good! Their mission is to create stylish, yet comfy clothes for children that allow them to run wild, be creative and happy. And boy did they suceed!

Let’s take a closer look.

Fringes are one of their signature trademarks. Sunna wanted to bring movement to the clothes. Children love the fringe details, – the ones who’ve been lucky enough to try the clothes, have drawn parallels to both, dinosaurs, indians and dragons. Fun!

Where can I get it?

Right here! Come get it. Sunbird just opened up a shop, and to celebrate they’re offering a 20% promotional discount on all items.

Wait, I want more

Don’t worry. You can read more about Sunbird here, and check out photos of their latest collections.

Stay tuned for updates about new collections of comfort and fun for the little ones!

Are you by chance in the 5 boroughs of New York City? Then, step back, grab your calender and mark a big fat ‘X‘ on February 24′th 2011. Scribble down this info while you’re at it: 6-10 pm. @ Knitting Factory, Brooklyn.

What’s going down?

This is! Beautiful pieces of artwork by contemporary artist Peter Kotowski, who is ending his month-long residency at the Knitting Factory. To bid his masterpieces a proper farewell, event planning company Tactile invites you to join the fun with a night of music, cocktails culture and an all-round good time!

Here’s a little peak of Kotowski’s work.

Kotowski is inspired not by the subject of his painting, but by the very event of its appearing. He is most impressed by spills, splotches, drop cloths, scraps, serendipitous accidents, and other often discarded, natural phenomena in the studio.

We hope to see you there!

The Kristy Crowley Diaries Part 9
Copenhagen has become a mecca for worldwide accolade surrounding fashion. As an American, the Scandinavian silhouette is viewed as edgy, liberating and bold. The Danish styles are fresh and innovative with attention to detail and elongation of the frame. This, coupled with simplicity and elegance, makes me go bananas for everything surrounding Danish fashion. But the thing I like most about Copenhagen style is the non-fuss. There is such a pleasing originality when people watching, a passion of mine that I practice regularly. I have picked up so many ideas for designing clothing by just watching people on the street. If you are seeking a special place for trendspotting, head to Blågårdsgade. It is so reminiscent of the East Village. While there, you must check out Harbo Bar and drink the dark and stormy (ginger beer and rum)…so good!

Fashion week for me was spent working in the office at Mads Nørgaard. We did take a little time off to party though! The staff threw an amazing party at a really dope barber shop on Saturday night and yours truly played some fresh music for family and friends of Mads. Here are some pics from the event spent with amazing friends and co-workers. Enjoy! And remember, “Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months,” Oscar Wilde. So true, but lets change that. I’m simply into wearing the same thing for like three days in a row…how Kurt Cobain of me.

Yesterday while surfing on the Internet I stumbled upon this American-high-school-ization of the social media on Flowtowns web site. To many people social media are just Facebook and stalking each other, but there are actually many different social media sites and here they are, all gathered in the class of 2011.

You might think that social media are incomprehensible to you, but take a glance at this infographic and become one of the nerds of the social media class of 2011.

By Anne Ringgaard Jørgensen

When studying at the university you sometimes have an odd and changing schedule. The other day I didn’t have lessons before the afternoon so I decided to spend my time on something else than lying in my bed. I jumped on the bike and my next stop was V1 Gallery in “Kødbyen”.

The gallery currently presents a diverse and interesting exhibition called “STATUS – Somewhere between position and condition”. The exhibition features a exciting mix of artists and genres within art. The curatorial premises have been simple – the artists have been asked to present works that reflects their current position or condition. We often seem to consider a certain position as something permanent or fixed but in reality our status – position- condition is a subject to change and development. The exhibition wants to celebrate changes and uncertainty!

By Ashley Macomber

When visiting you immediately see the diversity in the artworks exhibited but somehow it doesn’t seem messy or disorganized. There is room for the Danish well-known photographer and traveller Jakob Holdt and at the same time a beautiful artwork with 3D effects by Ashley Macomber. Personally, the many little drawings and collages in the gallery amazed me. So if you have some time off or just want to look at beautiful and quirky art you should visit V1 Galley. The exhibition runs until February 19.

Don’t be alarmed. I have the solution. And it sure is handy and puuuurty.

Look closer!

Canadian born-and raised artist Jess Atkinson has created a wonderful pair of non-prescription glasses that in her own words function as “an anti-lonely device, giving the user the feeling of being surrounded by people when worn” Handy huh?

The cut-outs are shaped as little humans. At the moment, the glasses are yet a prototype – but fingers crossed, they’ll be put in production. We’d like to customize ours with our favorite peeps, and style with this Bow Chain from Bergnerschmidt.

The Kristy Crowley Diaries Part 8
ArtRebels good friend, Ingibjorg Torfadottir, was at it again last Sunday. After a very hearty American brunch (mimosas, scrambled eggs with apple, brie and avocado and pancakes with bananas), we headed to the Meat District for a little photo shoot representing the new dynamic DJ duo, Bonnie and Clyde. Bonnie and Clyde will debut next Thurday, February 17th at Blasen. If you want shots of vodka in your mouth with our revolvers, be there…or die:-) We will play music that keeps you dancing all night long with all of the lovely, yet crazy Icelanders. It is a party you definitely want to check out and make sure and come say hello to the two lovely ladies…AKA Bonnie and Clyde. Enjoy the pictures and make sure to check out Ingibjorg’s work here.

ArtRebels is proud to present our new interns at the office. In January a bunch of new faces, all from different creative backgrounds, started their internship at ArtRebels. All together with our other current interns. They’re here to help us see things in other perspectives, not to mention, make their own mark.
We look forward to work with them. It’s all going to be exciting, fun and crazy. In the year 2011, old and new, we hereby welcome you on board! Let’s see who they are:

I recently finished my BA in performance-design and communication at RUC. I’m passionate about 4 things. Coffee, great storytellers, the golden era of hip-hop and love. Preferably spelled with an å like this; låve. When I’m not dreaming of living in New York as a blinged-out black man in the late 80’s I write blog posts and bike around Copenhagen on a rusty purple bike covered in ArtRebels stickers.

I’m the new kid in tha hood!
Greetings! I’m so exited to be a trainee at Artrebels. So who am I?
I’m 22 years old, a son, a brother, a boyfriend, a friend, a student, I used to be innocent but now you can catch me at the club spinning my records. Can’t wait to get Art Rebelized. Holla!

Graphic Design student, loves Copenhagen, the name Storm and is addicted to sausages.

Hello,
So, here I am, in the largest city of Denmark. At day time I work for the rebels. At night I do ninja tricks. I’m a music-lover, travel-lover, ice cream-lover and coffee-not-so-much-lover. But my heart belongs to graphic design. I live and worship types, sketches and lines… that’s it!

I’ve been an intern at ArtRebels for a year now (Jesus, time passes really quickly when you’re having a good time!), and studying Communication Design, full-time, at KEA Design/Business. I’m 23 years old, and from Sweden, but I’ve lived in Copenhagen for almost 3 years now. I’ve actually discovered several problems in the past years with this ”cultural collision”…
Like one late night during Trailerpark Festival, last year, when I was ”guarding” the artist entrance (and constantly neglecting drunk people to get in) – suddenly this man starts knocking on the door. After several hours, hearing every possible excuse (like ”I’m a friend, of a friend to Winnie Who who’s playing tonight..” – ”Well, Winnie Who played last night..”), I assumed this was nothing else but a bad try to get in. So, after having a wild discussion with this man, whether he was playing or not, it turnout to be, the well know DJ, Tomas Barfod. .. EMBARRASSING!
So, note to self; start reading Soundvenue, or just pay more attention to the party scene… But hey; you make mistakes, and you learn from them!”

Hi all of you!
I absolutely love the creative inviroment and being a part of ArtRebels!
During the week I’m struggling with my Art History studies while trying to squeeze in my creative interests. Sometimes it seems hard but on the other hand I appreciate living in a wonderful city like Copenhagen with different events and inspirational surroundings every day. At the moment I am looking forward to moving to Vesterbro and I cant wait for the summer to hit Denmark!

Totally nuts about experiences! – love to create them, experience them and get surprised by them. Been studying Dramaturgy and Experience Economy and just moved from Aarhus to Cph and I’m already in love with the urban vibes here. This is only the beginning! Ready to go crazy with this upside downtown rebelworld.

Originally I’m from a small(!!) town called Vordingborg. After finishing HHX I was off the very next day to Copenhagen. I live on Østerbro with my boyfriend, Jesper. In the summer of 2009 I began studying Multimedia Design at KEA medie/it, where I will finish this summer. Through my internship I will among other things, be involved with the elaboration of concept and design throughout different projects.

I’m studying to be a Graphic Designer with a twist of Visual Communication mixed in. For the next two months I’ll be spreading my love at the ArtRebels Office, and when not, you can find me biking around Copenhagen, on coffee dates with my best friends or holding hands with my boyfriend in my beloved hood; Nansensgade.
